Event Director Avtar Singh began participating in competitive track and trail running races in high school in Singapore and then joined local clubs to participate in trail running events in the Pacific North West in 1990 during the college years and completed his first 50 miler in 1992 and his first 100 miler in 1993.

​

As a former competitive ultra distance runner, he had spent 24 years as a retail and brand development manager in the sports retail industry as well as a business turnaround specialist for companies in distress.  

​

He brings 39 years of experience to the organization of running events both as a competitive runner and as a professional event organizer, having successfully organized over 54 international running events in South East Asia since 2009 with a stellar safety record and strict risk management of events.

Avta Sports first organized the Sabah Sprint Triathlon event in 1999 at Sutera Harbour Resort in Kota Kinabalu before taking over and organizing the iconic Sabah Adventure Challenge multi-day adventure race in Borneo as a the event director in 2004.

​

The Sabah Adventure Challenge became a legendary multi-day race globally as one of the top 11 races to do in the world according to Adventure World Magazine (2010) and was a multi-award winning brand as named by Action Asia Magazine.

​

In 2002, Avtar Singh, the event director completed the 395 kilometer run from the eastern town of Tawau across Sabah to finish over the Crocker Range Mountains in Western Sabah at the coastline at a town called Kimanis in 8 days. This was a prelude to him introducing the sport of ultra distance running in Malaysia as a sports tourism product during the 2010 Sabah Adventure Challenge in Tambunan with a dedicated ultra trail running category only for runners to compete over 3 days.

In 2011, the Borneo TMBT Ultra Trail Marathon, Malaysia's first international ultra trail trail running race was created by Avtar Singh ,and he then created and introduced the Beaufort Ultra Marathon, a 60 kilometer road ultra in the same year.  In 2012, he successfully created and organized a 250 kilometer ultra marathon across the historic Borneo Death March route over 7 days.

​

All three races were pioneering races for the sport of ultra running in Malaysia covering the 60km, 100km, 250km and the 400km distance.
